The River District of Asheville is home to many artist studios

If you’re planning an Asheville vacation, be sure to visit the River Arts District just around the corner from downtown Asheville off of Clingman Avenue. On any map of downtown Asheville, look for Clingman Avenue off of Patton Avenue just west of downtown.

During the second weekends in June and November, the River Arts District holds two-day Studio Strolls. Most of the studios are in fact within an easy stroll of one another. These events are free and open to the general public.

However, the many of the artists welcome visitors year round. According to the River District Artists web site. Fridays are among the best days to find artists in their studios. The site also provides a days-of-the-week guide with studio hours of operation.

Art is not the only thing you’ll in the River Arts District. The neighborhood features unique food and refreshment options as well, including Clingman Avenue Coffee & Catering and Twelve Bones Smokehouse.

What’s more, The Grey Eagle Tavern and Music Hall features fantastic live music and Louisiana cuisine inhouse from Twin Cousins Kitchen.

More great Asheville visitors information is available in the 2008 River District Artists Studio Guide, available at Asheville area hotels, restaurants and galleries. Or you can download the guide from their Web site.
