An Introduction to Finding Work Using the Internet
We didn’t see the recession coming, but here it is, and we’re well involved in an economic slowdown. You may even be recently unemployed. You can turn off the radio, but you can’t escape the actuality that the United Kingdom is in a recession and it will be with us for a good few years yet.
So what to do? The conventional ways of hunting for work are not so effective when you have 130 other individuals trying for the very same job. Picking up the local newspaper, going to the dole bureau, etc – good luck with that.
Much more effective is to be proactive in areas your competitors (the unemployed) are in lesser numbers. These days a lot of firms publish job vacancies on their website, so use a search engine and type in key words to identify local companies. Vary your keywords between locale only e.g. jobs in Tamworth Staffordshire England, and job type and locale e.g. cleaning jobs in Tamworth Staffordshire.
Another idea is to work for yourself – become self-employed. What we’ve found out over the last year is that big companies can go bankrupt overnight. Being self-employed puts destiny in your own hands, which is something no employee of a company can ever say they have. An important point is that you choose the type of career you enjoy since you must be motivated.
