Laxton is a small village in the midlands, dating from the Norman Conquest of 1066.
Nowadays visitors can visit the the site of the old castle at the edge of Laxton, and see Nottinghamshires best preserved motte and bailey castle.
You can also go to the fine looking, and much better preserved, village church which dates back to the 12th century and is still in use today.
Nonetheless, what makes the village of Laxton really individual is its use today of the Medieval Open Field Farming System.
This system is the only open farming system in Europe and one can explore the area yourself or go on a tour, which we can happily organise for you.
There is a visitor’s cente int he centre of the village with free admission and lots more information about Laxton and its history.
In the centre of the village is the Dovecote Inn where one can find cracking value, locally sourced food, in addition to agreeable villagers who’ll happily tell you a tale.
The Goat House at Ivy Cottage is in Laxton and goes back two hundred years.
